essential oils
We use essential oils in most of our treatments for a therapeutic outcome, or simply to delight your senses. Essential oils are aromatic chemicals extracted from flowers, fruits, herbs, trees and spices. Each oil is unique and contains chemical properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-fungal, antibacterial, etc. Essential oils assist many aspects of health from wound healing, to relaxation. They can be used in treating complaints such as indigestion, depression, insomnia, headaches, muscular aches and pains, and much more.
massage
Massage is performed on the muscles and ligaments of the body. It also works on the circulatory and nervous systems. It relieves muscle tension, breaks down adhesions between tissues and improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, assisting the removal of toxins.
It can relieve pain by stimulating endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers, and block out pain transmission. It calms the nervous system and alleviates stress.
Touch is powerful and has a profound effect on us physically and psychologically. Massage is one of the few opportunites some people have to be touched and nurtured. It is beneficial to those who aren’t in relationships, particularly to the elderly and to people who may have lost their partner and lack that physical connection in their lives.
If your skin feels very dry, you are welcome to upgrade your massage from one with an essential oil blend to one with a rich, nourishing body butter, containing cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil and vitamin E. The body butters have either essential oils or delicious aromas, such as chocolate, mocha, vanilla, coconut, frangipani, mango, watermelon, lime, etc.
remedial/sports massage with heat packs and muscle blend (Health rebates are available with certain therapists.)
Remedial/sports massage is a more intense kind of massage than relaxation massage. It is ideal for athletes or anyone who gives their muscles a real work-out. It can also be used to treat injuries, and for people whose job is very physically demanding, or those who sit for hours at their computer and get tension from using a mouse and having bad posture. It is also excellent for those who suffer mental stress at work under the pressure of tight deadlines or doing too much overtime. You can choose one of our muscle blends to enhance the effects of the massage. This treatment works best with an infra-red sauna session beforehand to soften the muscles, or we can use heat packs on the tense areas. Your therapist may also recommend corrective exercises to assist your posture.
Ayurvedic (Indian) massage
This massage can be gentle or firm. One of the main ways it differs from other styles of massage is that it focuses on joints, as well as muscles, which makes it perfect for elderly people with arthritic joints. Ayurvedic massage includes pressure points called “marmas”, lots of circles, and some long smooth strokes. It is ideal for heavily pregnant women since they can lie on their side, and also for women who have recently given birth. In India, some women are fortunate enough to be massaged every day for 40 days by friends and family after giving birth to their first child. This massage is considered to be very nourishing and regenerating, especially after child birth. This massage is very relaxing and nurturing, and suitable for everyone.
relaxation massage with essential oil blend
This massage can be any combination of Swedish, Hawaiian, Ayurvedic and aromatherapy techniques, depending on your therapist. You choose the parts of your body you would like to have massaged and the duration. Your therapist will help you choose a beautiful oil blend to suit your mood and delight your senses.
aromatherapy massage
This style of massage is mostly gentle and relaxing, incorporating some lymphatic drainage techniques on the face and body, and it includes the whole body. The back usually incorporates some remedial massage. Your therapist will help you choose a beautiful oil blend to suit your mood and your body’s needs. A mini facial massage with pressure points and scalp massage can be included. The facial can include a French clay mask if the duration is two hours. We recommend 1.5 – 2 hours.
Hawaiian massage
Long flowing strokes from the ankles to the shoulders will have you melting into bliss in no time. This massage is generally full body and we recommend 1.5 – 2 hours. You can even choose from our tropical range of oils – frangipani, lime, coconut, pineapple or banana, or perhaps you’d prefer something warm and nurturing like chocolate, coffee, mocha, jaffa or vanilla. Yum, good enough to eat!
warm stone massage with essential oils
Experience a relaxation massage with essential oils and delicious warm, smooth stones, alternating with hands on your body. The warmth of the stones is very soothing and nurturing, especially in winter, and helps to melt away stress and tight muscles. (Please also see Babor Treatment section for Scentao warm stone massage & facial.)
rose quartz crystal massage with rose & lavender essential oils
This exquisite deluxe treatment is a Zensara original treatment. It is the perfect gift to give to brides and loved ones since both the rose quartz crystals and rose essential oil symbolise love. It is also a very gentle and nurturing massage for people suffering loss and grief. We recommend 1.5 hours. This treatment is followed by rose refreshments.
To compliment this treatment, we can offer you a rose and lavender aromatherapy facial, and/or a clay milk body wrap with rose petals.
shiatsu
The literal translation of shiatsu is finger pressure. However, it is not only confined to fingers. Heels, elbows, feet and hands are all powerful tools, depending on what the practitioner prefers to use. Shiatsu works on the Chinese meridian system of healing. This style of massage is usually done with you lying on a futon on the floor. Look out! Your practitioner may even stand on your back!
Shiatsu is beneficial for anyone striving for inner harmony. It is a holistic therapy that works on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. Shiatsu is deeply relaxing, yet invigorating. It works on the body’s energetic system using the network of meridians or energy pathways that relate to the functioning of the internal organs, as well as our emotional, psychological and spiritual harmony. Sometimes energy gets blocked in our bodies and stagnates. The physical pressure of shiatsu unblocks tight muscles and stiffness, and parts of our body that feel cold.
Shiatsu is like acupuncture, without the needles. Applying finger and thumb pressure can improve energy flow through sluggish meridians, or pathways. The pressure helps restore the natural balance of the body by releasing endorphins, which relieve stress.
reflexology
Reflexology is pressure points most commonly applied to the feet. Different parts of the feet correspond to different organs of the body. Reflexology can also be done to hands, and occasionally the ears. It’s uncanny that those knots you have that are a bit tender usually are indicative of an organ or a body part that is out of balance.
In fact, reflexology corresponds to limbs, glands, senses, circulation and speech, as well as to organs. Since the feet have a rich supply of nerves, pressure on reflexes can effect parts of the body via the nervous system. Sensitive areas on the feet correspond to pain in the body. Having identified the existence and location of the problem, it is treated by triggering the body’s own healing powers. It improves blood circulation and gland function.
pregnancy massage
This massage is specially designed for you beautiful mums-to-be with essential oils of orange + lemon or lime. Please rest assured, these essential oils are completely safe for pregnancy.
We will make you comfortable with lots of pillows for support and as your tummy gets bigger, your back will probably need more attention. We can position you in different ways to massage you without you having to lie on your back or tummy. We can cater for you no matter which stage of pregnancy you are at. So take the weight off your feet and relax while we pamper you at this special time in your life.

body treatments
body exfoliation
Body exfoliation removes dead skin cells. It aids circulation, eliminating toxins from the skin, leaving it feeling supple, smooth and clean.
Exfoliation is great before a sauna to stimulate skin circulation and enhance the benefits of the sauna. And by removing the dead skin cells, it helps your spray tan to last longer.
We have over 20 of our own range of sea salt exfoliation products with either essential oils or yummy aromas, such as chocolate, mocha, vanilla, coconut, frangipani, mango, watermelon, lime, etc. Unless you are having tanning or waxing to follow, we use coconut oil based exfoliants, which nourish and moisturise your skin. However, prior to tanning or waxing, we use exfoliants that have a body wash base. And for something different, in the Babor range, we can offer you a herbal exfoliation. (Please see Babor Treatment section.)
infra-red sauna
In our infra-red sauna, you can choose coloured mood lighting and essential oils to clear your sinuses or to help you relax. Then experience our European spa shower afterwards. You will be given water to drink in the sauna to flush through the toxins and keep you hydrated.
Far infra-red saunas are safer and more bearable than other kinds of saunas since the heat penetrates tissues, which mobilises chemicals. Chemicals that were stored in other organs slowly disseminate through the body and accumulate in the subcutaneous fat ready to be sweated out by the infra-red sauna. Our bodies contain toxins, including cadmium, lead and mercury, which come from fish, paint, dental fillings, dry-cleaned clothing, carpet, exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, industrial pollution, and herbicides and pesticides. They are in our air, food and water. Sweating in an infra-red sauna helps us to rid the skin of these toxins, as well as improving circulation. It is very important to relieve the skin since it is our largest organ.
Far infra-red wavelengths also have other beneficial properties, such as lowering lactic acid, which accumulates and causes pain in muscles after over-exercising. The health benefits are endless.
Physiotherm gives you the best results
For thousands of years, the human body has had its own self-healing mechanism, which supports it when dealing with mechanical injuries such as inflammations just as much as it does in the fight against viruses and infections: namely fever. The increase in the body core temperature kills off harmful intruders into the system and accelerates the healing process.
Physiotherm supports the body in its task of strengthening and protecting itself through infrared deep warmth. This immediately has an extremely alleviating effect on the body: most users experience reduced pain levels within only a few days or weeks, plus a significant boost to their quality of life and general sense of well-being.
One in two adults has pain in the spinal column region, and slipped discs are becoming increasingly common. Have you noticed that your pain eases in summer? Many people experience pain relief in a warmer environment. What better way to warm your body and relax than in a Physiotherm cabin in your very own home.
Many people complain of being overweight, states of exhaustion caused by stress (burn-out syndrome), frequent illness because of an impaired immune system and of complaints linked to a poor supply of oxygen to the brain (e.g. poor concentration).
blood circulation
These thermal imaging pictures show how effective and deep acting a Physiotherm treatment at only 30 to 40 degrees is.
sweat therapy
Sweat therapy has long been known to be an effective health tool. Physiotherm enhances the eliminative cleansing process of the skin by stimulating the sweat glands.
relaxation and tone
The most immediate and noticeable effect is the tremendous relaxation; it alone can have a profound impact on your health. As the Physiotherm warms into your muscles, stress and tension melt away and can give comfort, relaxation for tired and aching bodies.
body conditioning
Physiotherm Infrared Therapy can aid in increasing heart rate, cardiac output and assist in faster calorie burning.
detoxify
Physiotherm Infrared penetrates deep into the body and causes a resonance in the water molecules that surround our cells. Because the far infrared frequency matches that of the body, this resonance allows the water molecules to move more freely in and out through the membrane of the cells. Many therapists will tell you that sweating is a great way to remove toxins from your body. Far Infrared therapy induces a considerable amount of sweat in most users in a low temperature, comfortable environment.
enjoy radiant, youthful skin
Physiotherm’s Infrared heat dilates the body’s capillary network. Together with infrared heat’s super cleansing effect, you will see a noticeable improvement in your skin’s texture, complexion and tone. Beauty therapists often use Infrared therapy in conjunction with more traditional treatments, to enhance the results of facials, body wraps and exfoliation treatments.
a retreat to de-stress and relax
Stress and anxiety melt away in the soothing warmth and comfort of the Physiotherm. Your senses are being further treated with sensual aromas, soothing colourtherapy and soft music if desired. A Physiotherm session thus helps to truly rebalance both the mind and body.
unbeatable for insomnia
Whether you are still on a different time zone, working too late or have overindulged with late night socializing, a Physiotherm session can quickly help get you back on track. Either before bed to promote deep, restful sleep, or the morning after to help flush out the excesses of the night before, the Physiotherm helps you recover.
prevent injury through effective warm up
"Tissues heated to 45 C and then stretched exhibit a non-elastic residual elongation of about 0.5-0.9% that persists after the stretch is removed, which does not occur in these same tissues at normal temperatures. Thus 20 stretching sessions can produce 10-18% increase in length of tissues so heated and stretched."
Justus F Lehmann M.D., Williams and Wilkins, Therapeutic Heat and Cold, 4th edition.
create a home spa retreat in which to pamper yourself and enhance other beauty treatments
For many decades beauty spas have used infrared heat to enhance the uptake of active ingredients and treatments for skin and beauty. Creating your own home spa with the Physiotherm will allow you to take time out for yourself and further enhance any other treatments you may utilize.
Sauna treatments are currently only available at our Neutral Bay branch.
spray tan
Being a natural therapies centre, we choose to use Tanline, a more natural spray tan product than most, which comes in light, medium and dark. It contains plantolin, which is clinically tested to heal and rejuvenate skin faster than any other product. It actually helps skin conditions such as eczma. Hydration is amplified, it is fade resistant, it gives a longer lasting tan, it looks real, and it reduces the risk of irritation.
Before your tan:
- If you have very sensitive skin, we can do a patch test 24 hours before your spray tan.
- We recommend exfoliation, preferrably the day before. This will improve and extend your tanning results.
- Please bring underwear or swimwear if you are uncomfortable being naked.
Before, and for at least eight hours after your tan, we recommend that you do not appy deodorant, moisturiser, makeup or perfume.
After your tan:
- Please bring loose, dark clothing to wear.
- Do not shower for at least eight hours. If possible, shower the next day.
- Avoid strenuous activity that will cause excessive perspiration.
- To extend the life of your tan, apply moisturiser or oil daily.
- You still need to wear SPF protection as spray tan will not protect you from UV rays.
clay milk body wrap
First we coat your body with an aromatic or essential oil blend to deeply nourish and moisturise your skin. Next we apply the clay milk wrap, which draws out toxins, and can also be used to treat problem skin with acne, in which case it is best to choose either our teatree, geranium and patchouli oil blend or lavender and peppermint. We then wrap your body up in special body cling film for approximately 10 minutes, leaving your head free for a delicious face and scalp massage. This treatment is concluded with a European spa shower.
A body wrap is ideal following a body exfoliation, and before a sauna or massage. Instead of being wrapped, you may choose to upgrade your treatment and sit in the sauna with the clay milk wrap on you. You may also wish to have an aromatherapy facial while your wrap is on and/or a hair wrap.
(Please also see Babor Treatment section for clay & herb wrap, fango (healing volcanic mud wrap), and algae wrap.)
deluxe clay milk body wrap with rose petals
For the deluxe body wrap we use luxurious, aromatic massage oil containing essential oils of rose and lavender to deeply nourish and moisturise your skin. Rose is nature’s answer to anti-aging since it stimulates cell renewal. Rose also symbolises love and nurturing, which makes it the perfect treatment for brides, or to give to someone you love. Beautiful pink rose petals are sprinkled all over your body, on top of the clay milk wrap. We then wrap your body up in special body cling film for approximately 10 minutes, leaving your head free for a delicious face and scalp massage. This treatment is concluded with a European spa shower. This treatment is followed by rose refreshments.
To compliment this treatment, we can offer you a rose and lavender aromatherapy facial, and/or a hair wrap, and/or a rose quartz body massage.
aloe vera body wrap with essential oils of teatree, geranium & patchouli
This wrap is cool and refreshing for summer. The teatree makes it great for an acne treatment, and the geranium, patchouli and vitamin E make it great for dry skin. After applying massage oil and the aloe vera wrap, we envelope your body in special body cling film for approximately 20 minutes, leaving your head free for a delicious face and scalp massage. Once you’ve been unwrapped, we pat off the excess product and the rest stays on your skin.

hair wraps
Hair wraps are a great add on to aromatherapy facials and body wraps since you’re having a scalp massage as part of those treatments anyway. They contain cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil and vitamin E. They also have either essential oils or delicious aromas, such as chocolate, mocha, vanilla, coconut, frangipani, mango, watermelon, lime, etc.
After applying the hair wrap and massaging your scalp and hair for about 10 minutes, we cover your hair in cling film for approximately another 10 minutes. These rich, nutritious ingredients feed your hair and scalp. We recommend a sauna to infuse these luxurious ingredients even more, in which case your hair wrap can stay on for longer. Then we massage a sodium laurel sulphate free shampoo into your hair and scalp and the treatment is concluded with a European spa shower.

Other treatments
Tibetan bowl vibration therapy
Every cell in our body vibrates at a certain frequency. When we feel tired or stressed, or have a mental or physical disease, the vibration of the effected cells changes to an unnatural rhythm and rate. Some vibrational frequencies can bring the vibration of these cells back to normal. The Tibetan bowls are usually played before a treatment to shift and cleanse energy and clear blockages. The bowls can be used as a mini treatment on their own but are best followed by a massage to integrate the new energy after the clearing.
ear candling
Ear candling is an ancient remedy for removing excess wax and toxins from the ear canal. It is often used to assist in treating the following conditions – fungal infections, excess wax build-up, sinus pain and irritation, toxic residue from medication, glue ear or swimmer’s ear, tinnitus, foggy head, migraines, and more. It is a gentle, relaxing process, and suitable for everybody, including the elderly and children.
